Adolescent Therapy

Adolescence can be a very challenging time for young people. Not only do they have to keep on top of their school work, but they also have to navigate their way through the minefield of social media and fitting in with their friends and peers, all while trying to keep reasonable relationships with their parents and siblings. Transitioning into Year 7 is one of the most difficult times for this.

Many young people these days suffer from anxiety and/or depression and it can be quite debilitating for them and hard on the rest of the family. Recognising the symptoms and seeking help early will ensure that your child will learn to successfully manage their mental health and continue to thrive.

Some of the behaviours to watch out for are:

  • Irritability

  • Being overly anxious about things

  • Avoidance of usual activities, or not enjoying those they usually do

  • Sleep disturbances – can’t get to sleep or waking during the night

  • Withdrawal – are they spending a lot of time on their own?

  • Change in eating patterns – eating more or less than usual.

  • Difficulty concentrating at school or on their home work

  • Decline in marks at school

Sometimes it just all seems too much, particularly when young people are struggling with one part of their life, and it starts affecting the rest.
