Workshop Date for 2010 : Wednesday 28th July
Are you curious about Emotional Intelligence?
Would you like to gain some additional ways to develop yourself as a health professional in your role with clients, colleagues and as a leader or manager?
Emotional Intelligence, a new area of psychological research, describes the ability to perceive and manage the emotions of one's self, others, and groups. Well developed skills in Emotional Intelligence (EI) are essential for successful leadership, and positive and productive relationships with colleagues and clients. It also greatly assists with burnout prevention.
Research now shows an inverse relationship between emotional intelligence and professional burnout, which gives us an even stronger impetus to develop ourselves in this way. Unlike intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence can be improved through enhanced self awareness and a commitment to develop specific skills.
This workshop provides detailed knowledge and practical skills in the application of EI to workplace contexts. It explores ways to enhance one’s own emotional intelligence, and can be easily applied to therapeutic work. It will focus on ways of enhancing the emotional intelligence of one’s self and one’s colleagues. This workshop has been tailored to meet the needs of health professionals who are seeking to develop their emotional intelligence skills at all levels of experience.
At the end of this workshop participants will have:
- Increased knowledge about key concepts of Emotional Intelligence (EI)
- Practical skills in enhancing EI in the workplace
- An overview of the models and assessments of EI and how they may assist in staff development and supervision
- Practical skills and approaches for bringing out the best in yourself and others thought the EI construct
This workshop, designed and delivered by Michelle Bihary, uses active learning and adult learning principles as the core teaching style with lots of opportunity for discussion, reflection, practice and skill building. A multimedia presentation complements the active learning style and is supported by comprehensive notes and reference material to encourage further knowledge and skill development. This course is built on strong professional values, including integrity, authenticity, respect and confidentiality. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work together with other health professionals who are passionate about their work. Testimonials
This was an excellent intro to EI. Thank you! I feel I have gained a framework & strategies to apply in a work setting and personally to effectively express and use emotions in myself and others. Great presentation and thorough discussion of strategies. Have a good framework of EI, a language to be able to discuss it and good ideas to translate to the workplace.
